Happy Mother’s Day!

Mothers Day 3

Happy Mother’s Day to you!  Even if you are not a mother, I wish you a happy day.  Each one of us have influenced other people in parental-type ways, nourishing others and caring for others, sometimes even our own parents.  So Happy Day to you today 🙂

Mothers Day 1

I should have posted a Mother’s Day card sooner, to give you some ideas.  But I’ve had a really busy week and just didn’t get to it until yesterday – when I needed to make my own card for my mother in law!!!  I had this new photopolymer stamp from the April Paper Pumpkin kit and decided to use it.  Of course my mother in law is older than I am and she likes her cards a bit more old-fashioned.  A doily and some pretty lace embossing did the trick.

Enjoy your day today, my friends!

Fall Birthday and PPA 169

HBday.envie2

Today’s Pal’s Paper Arts sketch makes a gorgeous card.  I love the layout.  I have to admit I’m not too big on halloween.  The halloween designer series paper has spiders and skulls and icky stuff I don’t really like to use.  But these two papers were on the pretty side, so I tried them 🙂  Here’s the sketch from this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge:

ppa169 sketch

Pretty Pointer:  When using panels like these on cards, lining the panels with a contrasting color highlights and gives depth to each panel.  On this card I used Basic Grey card stock to line each panel.

HBday.cuTo add texture to the horizontal panel some Early Espresso Baker’s Twine was wrapped around the long end.  And further texture was added by embossing the vertical panel.

What about you?  Why not try your hand at this sketch?  Make your card, take a photo of it, and upload it to the Pals Paper Arts website!  I’d love to see you over there!

Smile!

How are you today, sweet reader?  How are things going?  Some days are good and some days aren’t good, right?  Well today’s card is made with thoughts of you.  If today is a good day for you — smile!  Enjoy your day.  If today is not such a good day for you, if things look down, may I encourage you to smile?  Just the movement of those muscles helps, I’ve heard.  Just smile at this screen and know I’m wishing you a smile today 🙂

And how can you help it?  This big smile stamp is just working hard to make you smile!  And now, in mid-August as we begin to think of the Fall, let’s smile together.

Smile.1Two stamp sets are used for today’s card:  The Truly Grateful set from the Holiday Catalog, and the Happy Day set.  That’s the set with the big “smile” stamp.  I love it.  The little acorn and the wood planks are from Truly Grateful.  The acorn is hand cut just so it can act almost as an embellishment.

Have a good day today — and smile!  I’ll be smiling with you!

Pretty Butterfly Thank You

Ooh, I just love these butterflies, don’t you?  Making double butterflies is fun with butterfly punches.  Choose two pretty colors and punch away!

Butterfly.TU.little butterflies

This card is really a snap to make.  The background is embossed with Stampin’ Up!’s Fancy Fan Embossing Folder to give some added texture.  But it would be even easier just to use plain colored card stock.  These little butterflies could be used anywhere:  on gift bags, gift packages, notepads, notebooks, and on and on.

These two punches are some of my favorites.  Here they are:

The Elegant Butterfly Punch (Item 127526)

and the Bitty Butterfly Punch (so adorable!):

What else could you use these little butterflies on?  Leave me a comment and let me know – I need more ideas!!

When I think of the earth, I think of its beauty, the flowers, the trees, and the way raindrops sparkle on the leaves of trees.   I’m also thankful to God who created the earth.  That’s what I’ve tried to capture in today’s card.

The tree is from the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set.  And the flowers and grass are from one of the stamps in the March Best of Flowers set.  Have you gotten any of the “Best of” sets yet?  Stampin’ Up! is issuing a stamp set each month, in honor of their 25th anniversary.  Each stamps set contains one brand new stamp, and the other stamps are some of the best of all 25 years.

HopCard.1

Pretty Pointer:  To get this look on the flowers, I used the 2012-2014 Stampin’ Write Markers to color the stamp by hand.  I colored the stems in Gumball Green and the flowers in Raspberry Ripple.  Doesn’t it give the feeling of a real field of flowers?

And I couldn’t forget my very favorite doilies!  I think they look a bit like clouds on this card…maybe I just love using doilies!!  An embossed oval with a sentiment from the Apothecary Art stamp set, and a darling linen thread bow finish it off.
