What IS an eclipse card? It’s also called the hidden words technique. Letters of a word are raised up out of the rest of the card, and the letters look like they are hidden but coming right up out of the paper.
I just got the Large Letter Framelits Dies so of course I had to make an eclipse card! Actually, this was an easy card to make. It’s for a guy, so I used a blue (Dapper Denim) paper with an accent of Lemon Lime Twist. I lined up the letters on the paper and ran it through the Big Shot.
Then I added a handmade envelope because the shape of my card wasn’t standard. Don’t even ask me about the dimensions…I just formed the envelope around the card 🙂 To trim the envelope I used a stamp from the Badges & Banners stamp set and punched it out with the Best Badge Punch.
This was such a fun card to make! FYI, once you cut the letter out of the paper, layer the paper over a piece of a contrasting color. Then place the letters back in their openings, using our Foam Adhesive Strips. That’s it! Easy, right?

This fabulous die is from the Star Blast Edgelits. Don’t you LOVE it? It’s just so happy and fun! I know I’m going to use it alot.
For the sentiment, I used the Thoughtful Banners stamp set and the coordinating Duet Banner Punch. It fits perfectly below the stars.
My husband loved his card!! He has it displayed right now in his office! Yeah, success!

Happy Birthday to my husband! It’s his birthday and I wanted to make him a special card. He knows the cards I make, so I wanted to really surprise him with something he hadn’t seen before. A pop-up card in a box seemed just right!
This is a really fun card to make but it does take a little time 🙂 I followed a great tutorial from Splitcoaststampers which you can see HERE.
The Rev Up The Fun stamp set is so perfect for guy’s cards, I just love it! It has a motorcycle, a sports car, tire tracks, dust…things that guys like. I knew I would use this set. There is lots of room to put fun things on this card, so I used two other stamp sets (Cycle Celebration and Big Wish) for balloons, cupcakes, candles, the works!
Rev Up The Fun Clear Mount Stamp Set – Item No. 130523 ($14.95)
Cycle Celebration Stamp Set Clear Mount – Item No. 130273 ($16.95)
Big Wish Stamp Set Clear Mount – Item No. 133095 ($20.95)
This card folds down flat to put in an envelope for gift giving. Then when it’s opened up everything pops out! It’s a great, fun card–really a present in itself. I’ll be making more of these!
DON’T FORGET – IT’S SALE-A-BRATION! Order $50 of any products and get one special Sale-a-Bration item FREE!! You could order the three stamp sets used on this card and get a FREE item from the Sale-a-Bration catalog!

So, we really can’t use lace, hearts and doilies on every card, can we? It’s the season for those things and I love it! But we need other cards for our family and friends 🙂
Today’s card is great for a guy’s birthday: it’s bright and fun with a light-hearted sentiment. AND, it has some item’s from the Spring catalog. Can you guess what those items are? I’ll tell you at the end of this post (there has to be a little suspense!).
New Technique and Pretty Pointer: Today’s card shows a new technique which is perfect for this card. The left edge of the card is bordered with a strip of Crumb Cake card stock that has been scored to give the card some texture. Simply cut a strip of card stock about 1″ wide and 5-1/2″ long (the length of the card), place it on the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, and score three vertical lines with the Stylus. Affix it to your card – in this case with just a little overlap on top of the designer series paper. It creates the look of a binding on a book, don’t you think?
Ok, did you guess the items from the Spring catalog? The bright paper is one of the sheets from the NEW Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack. I love the paper “stacks” that Stampin’ Up! has. There are 48 sheets of paper (yes, 48 sheets!) and each one is the size of one large card. So easy to work with and so many possibilities! And then the button–the button is from the NEW Basics Designer Buttons. There’s a little bit of Linen Thread in the one on this card.
REMEMBER, this is SALE-A-BRATION!! And that means, this is the time when you earn FREE fun and special items for every $50 you order! Do you have the Simply Scored Scoring Tool? That would be a great way to begin your order (Item No. 122334).
Thanks for stopping by Pretty Paper Cards today and Happy Shopping!
