If you are a card maker, envelopes are important! They set the stage for the experience of the person who receives your card. I like to think that when a person finds a personal envelope in their mailbox — they smile! Especially these days when much of our communication is electronic.
So when a person sees that hand-addressed personal envelope, they are already excited. Why not give them a little preview of what’s inside? That’s what decorated envelopes do — give just a “taste” of the handmade goodness inside!
Today I have for you four different ways to decorate your envelopes using designer series paper. The first decorating technique is to simply add a stop of designer paper on the left side of the envelope. I’m using the gorgeous Dashing Along Designer Series Paper. The filagree-looking pattern (at the top left below) is my favorite! 🙂
It’s best to start with a nice envelope, and the key here is to have the right sized envelope for the card you’ve made. Our Stampin’ Up! envelopes are SO nice! They fit the A2 sized card perfectly and are an excellent quality. Personally I never use any other envelopes. And they come in both Whisper White and Very Vanilla.
Lining the inside flap of an envelope is a wonderful way to decorate it.The Beautiful Layers Thinlits Dies have a great envelope liner die to line the flap – like the one below!
You can also decorate the outside flap of the envelope! The video above will show you exactly how to create the envelope below using a thin strip of card stock above the designer series paper. You could also leave off the thin card stock strip as an alternative.

Your envelopes are beautiful, Peggy! Thanks for sharing these decorative ideas. I have noticed that some of the cards I receive in the mail are squished as they go through the mail processing machines, so I would hand deliver envelopes with the DSP on the outside. The envelope liners are great for mailing.
Keep up the good work! Your videos are very nicely done. 😊
