What IS an eclipse card? It’s also called the hidden words technique. Letters of a word are raised up out of the rest of the card, and the letters look like they are hidden but coming right up out of the paper.
I just got the Large Letter Framelits Dies so of course I had to make an eclipse card! Actually, this was an easy card to make. It’s for a guy, so I used a blue (Dapper Denim) paper with an accent of Lemon Lime Twist. I lined up the letters on the paper and ran it through the Big Shot.
Then I added a handmade envelope because the shape of my card wasn’t standard. Don’t even ask me about the dimensions…I just formed the envelope around the card 🙂 To trim the envelope I used a stamp from the Badges & Banners stamp set and punched it out with the Best Badge Punch.
This was such a fun card to make! FYI, once you cut the letter out of the paper, layer the paper over a piece of a contrasting color. Then place the letters back in their openings, using our Foam Adhesive Strips. That’s it! Easy, right?

Father’s Day is coming up and I was thinking that we should get a start on our cards, especially if we have to mail them. But of course we want to use some of our goodies from the new catalog, right?
The new Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack is perfect for guy cards. It’s an assortment of 48 sheets of various double-sided woodgrain 6″ x 6″ sheets. I mean, it’s not just for guy cards (we’re going to make some pretty cards with it!) but it works well for guy cards 🙂
The die-cut “Happy” is from the new Happy Birthday Thinlits. The font on this thinlit sentiment is so nice. The words “Happy Birthday” are attached together on the die, but you can easily snip them apart and use the words separately like I did here.

The Badges & Banners stamp set and coordinating punch, along with the “father’s day” sentiment from Thoughtful Banners and it’s coordinating punch, finish off the card. I love punches, don’t you? I made this card in a snap because I could stamp and then punch out these elements!

We all need guy birthday cards and this one’s a snap to make. I’m really loving the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack. That’s what made this card so easy!
The wood background is one of the papers from the paper stack. I’ve used the Hello You Thinlits Dies for the “happy,” and the coordinating Crazy About You stamp set to repeat the word “birthday.”
Have you used this great paper stack yet? Give it a try, you’ll love it!!
So, as much as I love making frilly, flowery, feminine cards, every so often I need a masculine card 🙂 This is a good card for a guy, and I’ve used masculine colors and large shapes to appeal to guys.
The card is not hard to make. Cut your paper 8-1/2 x 5-1/2. Score it on each side at 2-1/8. You don’t necessarily have to add the front side panels of designer series paper, but if you want to, cut them at 5-1/4 x 2. The birthday rectangle is 2 x 3.
The surprise of this card is that there’s a gift card inside ~ and it’s to Lowes!! This particular card is for my daughter’s fiancé and I think he’s really going to like it!
The birthday greeting is from the Big News stamp set, and the inside sentiment is from the Bravo stamp set.

Today’s card is special. It’s for a great young man who just went into the Marine’s. I’ve known him since he was two years old, and last week he started basic training. I’m sad and proud all at the same time. I’ve heard the first few weeks are very tough. We just got an address for him and I want to send him a card right away! I guess it’s supposed to be a bit “plain” to pass through the military…hmmm.
For the design I used this week’s Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge. I could have added SO many more layers and embellishments 🙂 but tried to restrain myself! Here’s the sketch:
The base of the card is the NEW Kraft Cardstock ~ wow! You can be sure I’ll be using this often. It has a look like something a guy would like, a textured look. The adorable little typewriter is from the NEW stamp set called Tap Tap Tap.
What do you think of the cute “hi” circle? It’s actually a sticker! There are whole sheets of NEW Basics Kraft Stickers for us to play with. This is the first one I’ve used and it is CU-UTE!
Well, I’m off to address my card and get it in the mail right away!
