Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. Autism affects an estimated 1 in 88 births (Centers for Disease Control Prevention, 2014). Roughly translated, this means as many as 1.5 million Americans today are believed to have some form of autism. And this number is on the rise. Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies, autism is growing at a startling rate of 10-17 percent per year. At this rate, the ASA estimates that the prevalence of autism could reach 4 million Americans in the next decade.

My card today is really meant for caregivers, parents and families of those with autism. My heart just goes out to them and I know they need love and support to keep going. So I created this card which expresses my feelings for them. I know that some autism patients may not like hugs or physical touch, so it seems that their caregivers even more would need that hug. In fact, I have a friend who is a mother of an autistic child and she needs lots of hugs. I’m going to send this card to her!

The bold sentiment was cut with the Lovely Words Thinlits Dies. It’s highlighted by two circles punched with the Starburst Punch, one is Whisper White card stock and one is Vellum (you can barely see the Vellum layered over the white). Bright designer series paper forms the background of the card, and Night of Navy Corduroy Ribbon adds a nice accent.
